You supply WiFi modules to 200+ product manufacturers worldwide. You are not the manufacturer of the final product — the cybersecurity obligation under Directive 2014/53/EU is theirs. But 50 of your clients are now asking the same question: does your module comply with EN 18031? If you cannot answer, they switch to a supplier who can.

Your WiFi and BLE modules go inside products you do not control: routers, cameras, sensors, wearables, toys. The final product manufacturer is responsible for cybersecurity under Art. 10 — not you. But the market has shifted: your clients need to demonstrate EN 18031 compliance, and the module is a critical component. If you can provide EN 18031 documentation for your module, their compliance effort is dramatically easier. If you cannot, they source from a module supplier who can. REDCheck generates 5 PDF documents for your module. 30 minutes. €99 per module model. Not because you must — because your clients need it.

The numbers

200+
Typical number of clients for a WiFi module supplier. Each client is now a potential request for EN 18031 documentation
Not obligated
Art. 10 places documentation obligations on the manufacturer of the final product, not on the component supplier. Module documentation is a commercial advantage, not a legal requirement
50 clients
If 50 clients switch to a competitor who provides EN 18031 documentation, you lose 30% of revenue in 6 months

Common mistakes

COMMON ERROR

"We're not the manufacturer — compliance is the client's problem"

Legally, correct. But commercially, your clients choose component suppliers who make their compliance easier. A WiFi module with EN 18031 documentation saves the client weeks of assessment work.

COMMON ERROR

"Our module datasheet covers security features"

A datasheet describes features. EN 18031 documentation assesses compliance with specific cybersecurity requirements: access control, authentication, secure boot, firmware integrity, secure OTA updates, vulnerability disclosure.

COMMON ERROR

"Only one client asked — it's not a trend"

Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 became mandatory on 1 August 2025. The clients asking now are early movers. The rest will follow within months.

What you pay

🧾 LOSING 50 CLIENTS TO A COMPETITOR WITH DOCUMENTATION
30% revenue

✓ REDCHECK
€99
Per module model. 5 documents your clients can incorporate into their compliance file.

Two layers

● LAYER 1

Module-level EN 18031 documentation

Assess your WiFi module against EN 18031-1. Provide the documentation to your clients as a component compliance package. They incorporate it into their product-level Annex V file.

∅ LAYER 2

Product-level compliance (client's responsibility)

The final product manufacturer integrates your module documentation into their Annex V technical file, assesses the complete product and signs the EU Declaration of Conformity. Your documentation is a building block.

What happens without cybersecurity documentation

Art. 46 of Directive 2014/53/EU requires effective, proportionate and dissuasive penalties.

📉
Client retention
Competitive pressure

Module suppliers compete on features, price AND compliance readiness. EN 18031 documentation is becoming a selection criterion.

🇪🇺
Client enforcement
Indirect impact

When your client faces market surveillance, the module-level evidence you provide directly supports their case.

🏭
Industry standard
Trend

Major chip manufacturers (Espressif, Nordic, STMicroelectronics) are already publishing RED cybersecurity compliance resources. Module suppliers without documentation are falling behind.

Frequently asked questions

Am I legally required to provide EN 18031 documentation for my module?
No. Directive 2014/53/EU Art. 10 obligations apply to the manufacturer of the final product, not to component suppliers. However, providing documentation is a commercial advantage.
What does a module-level REDCheck assessment cover?
REDCheck assesses your WiFi module against EN 18031: access control, authentication, secure communications, firmware integrity, secure OTA updates, vulnerability management, event logging.
Can my client reference my REDCheck documentation in their Annex V file?
Yes. Your module-level documentation becomes supporting evidence in your client's product-level Annex V technical file. Standard practice in modular product compliance.
Espressif offers a free RED assessment tool for ESP32. Why should I pay €99?
Espressif's tool works only for ESP32 chips. If your module uses Qualcomm, MediaTek, Nordic, Silicon Labs or any other chipset, it does not apply. REDCheck works with any WiFi/BLE module regardless of the underlying chip platform.
Is it a subscription?
No. One-time payment. Each license includes a 30-day editing window and up to 10 regenerations. The 5 PDF documents you download are yours permanently.
Can I request a refund?
Under Art. 16(m) of Directive (EU) 2011/83 on consumer rights, by activating the license you give express consent to the immediate generation of the digital content, waiving the 14-day right of withdrawal. Refunds are accepted only for reproducible technical failures reported to hello@solidwaretools.com within 14 days of purchase.
What if the regulation changes?
If Directive 2014/53/EU, Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 or the EN 18031 standards change during your license validity period, you can regenerate the documents with the updated version of the generator at no additional cost.
