You manufacture WiFi smart doorbell cameras in the US. Your EU importer needs cybersecurity documentation — and your product triggers BOTH Art. 3(3)(d) and Art. 3(3)(e), because video recordings are personal data.

Your video doorbell connects to the internet via WiFi — Art. 3(3)(d) applies. It records video, captures images of visitors, and may store location data — that is personal data under GDPR Art. 4(1). Art. 3(3)(e) applies under Art. 1(2)(a). You need documentation for BOTH. A European lab quotes $5,500–$11,000 per model. REDCheck generates the 5 PDF documents. 30 minutes. €99. 100% in your browser.

Cybersecurity documentation for smart doorbell cameras: the numbers

Smart doorbell cameras are among the highest-scrutiny products in EU market surveillance. They record video of individuals. Cybersecurity documentation is the minimum.

Arts. 3(3)(d) + (e)
Dual requirement: network protection AND personal data. Your doorbell camera triggers both.

Three mistakes US doorbell camera manufacturers make about EU cybersecurity

COMMON MISTAKE

"Our camera only records locally — Art. 3(3)(e) doesn’t apply"

Art. 3(3)(e) applies if the device is CAPABLE of processing personal data. Video recordings of identifiable individuals are personal data. Even local storage qualifies as processing under GDPR Art. 4(2).

COMMON MISTAKE

"We already have CE marking from our EMC/safety tests"

CE marking for EMC and safety does not cover the cybersecurity requirements of Art. 3(3)(d) and (e). These are SEPARATE obligations activated from 1 August 2025.

COMMON MISTAKE

"Our FCC ID is enough for international compliance"

FCC Part 15 regulates RF emissions in the US. It has zero relevance to EU cybersecurity requirements. Different laws, different jurisdictions.

What REDCheck guarantees and what it does not

REDCheck generates a document structured under Art. 21 and Annex V of Directive 2014/53/EU based on the information you enter. The truthfulness, accuracy and completeness of that information is your responsibility as manufacturer of the radio equipment.

We guarantee that the document structure follows Art. 21 and Annex V of Directive 2014/53/EU and that the legal references cited are correct as of the latest verification date.

REDCheck is not legal advice. For specific situations, consult a lawyer or specialised regulatory consultancy.

Frequently asked questions

My doorbell camera uses end-to-end encryption. Does Art. 3(3)(e) still apply?
Yes. Video recordings of identifiable persons are personal data regardless of encryption. Encryption is part of your implementation — not an exemption from the documentation requirement.
My product uses both WiFi and BLE. Which standard applies?
Art. 3(3)(d) applies because of WiFi (Art. 1(1)). EN 18031-1 covers network protection. If personal data is processed, EN 18031-2 also applies.
We sell via Amazon DE. Does Amazon check for this documentation?
Amazon requires conformity documentation for active EU listings. Amazon has been proactively suspending listings for missing cybersecurity documentation since August 2025.
What’s the difference between RED cybersecurity and the CRA?
Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 will be repealed from 11 December 2027. REDCheck covers 1 August 2025 to 11 December 2027.
Is it a subscription?
No. One-time payment. Each license includes a 30-day editing window and up to 10 regenerations. The 5 PDF documents you download are yours permanently.
Can I request a refund?
Under Art. 16(m) of Directive (EU) 2011/83 on consumer rights, by activating the license you give express consent to the immediate generation of the digital content, waiving the 14-day right of withdrawal. Refunds are accepted only for reproducible technical failures reported to hello@solidwaretools.com within 14 days of purchase.
What if the regulation changes?
If Directive 2014/53/EU, Delegated Regulation (EU) 2022/30 or the EN 18031 standards change during your license validity period, you can regenerate the documents with the updated version of the generator at no additional cost.
⚠️ Important notice: REDCheck is a documentary self-assessment tool, not legal advice or a third-party audit. The document is generated from the data you enter. The accuracy of the data is your responsibility under Art. 10(1) of Directive 2014/53/EU. REDCheck does not replace a conformity assessment by a Notified Body where required under Art. 17(4) of the Directive.
