Reg. (EU) 2023/956Generate dossier — €299

You import aluminium profiles from China and need to know exactly how much CBAM will cost you per tonne before September 2027

Chinese aluminium has the highest default emission intensity among major EU suppliers: 4.928 tCO₂e/t under Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/2621. You import profiles, sheets or extrusions for construction, packaging or metalwork. CBAM is not an abstract regulation — it is a per-tonne cost that you need to budget for, pass on to clients, or mitigate by getting actual emission data from your supplier. CBAMCheck quantifies the financial exposure, generates 12 professional deliverables, and includes a dashboard that projects your costs through 2032. €299 — not a subscription.

The numbers behind Chinese aluminium CBAM exposure

China accounts for 13.1% of aluminium imports into the EU by value (€3,900M). Profiles (CN 7604), sheets (CN 7606), foil (CN 7607) and bars (CN 7604) are the most common Chinese aluminium products entering the EU. Chinese primary aluminium production is heavily coal-powered, giving it the highest emission intensity of any major EU supplier.

CBAM compliance path for importers of Chinese aluminium

1
Apply for authorised CBAM declarant status (Art. 5)
Required before any CBAM-covered aluminium import clears customs in the definitive phase.
2
Verify your CN codes against Annex I
Aluminium products in Annex I include CN 7601 (unwrought), 7604 (bars/profiles), 7605 (wire), 7606 (plates/sheets), 7607 (foil), 7608 (tubes) and 7609 (fittings). CBAMCheck covers all 285 CN codes.
3
Determine embedded emissions — direct and indirect
Aluminium is one of the CBAM sectors where indirect emissions (from electricity) are also counted under Annex IV. China's coal-heavy grid drives the 4.928 tCO₂e/t default. Actual data from your supplier may be lower if they use hydroelectric power.
4
Purchase CBAM certificates from 1 February 2027 (Art. 20)
China has no carbon pricing mechanism deductible under Art. 9. No deduction applies — certificates cover the full embedded emissions.
5
Submit CBAM declaration by 30 September 2027 (Art. 6)
First declaration covers 2026 imports. Surrender certificates (Art. 22). Quarterly 50% minimum from 2027 (Art. 22(2)). Calendar .ics in the dossier includes all deadlines.

Three mistakes importers of Chinese aluminium make with CBAM

Mistake 1 — Not knowing how much CBAM will cost in real money

At 4.928 tCO₂e/t, 200 tonnes of Chinese aluminium profiles costs approximately €1,800 in CBAM certificates in 2026

Many importers treat CBAM as a future problem. It is not. From 2026, embedded emissions require certificates. The cost increases each year as free allocation phases out (Art. 31). By 2034, you pay 100% of the embedded emissions. CBAMCheck's dashboard projects the exact per-tonne cost through 2032 so you can plan pricing and procurement.

Mistake 2 — Using tools that only cover steel and ignore aluminium

Aluminium is in Annex I with specific indirect emission rules that steel does not have

Aluminium is one of the few CBAM sectors where indirect emissions (from electricity consumed during smelting) are counted alongside direct emissions. A tool designed for steel misses this. CBAMCheck applies the full Annex IV calculation methodology for aluminium, including both direct and indirect emissions.

Mistake 3 — Assuming you need a compliance department to handle CBAM

CBAMCheck is built for SMEs — you enter your data, the tool does the calculation

You are a construction company, a metalwork workshop or a packaging manufacturer. You don't have a regulatory affairs team. CBAMCheck does not require regulatory expertise. You enter your CN code, tonnage and supplier information. The tool applies the correct default values, structures the emission calculation, and generates all 12 deliverables in 30 minutes.

What CBAMCheck guarantees — and what it does not

CBAMCheck generates a document structured under Art. 6 and Art. 7 + Annex IV of Regulation (EU) 2023/956 based on the information you enter. The truthfulness, accuracy and completeness of that information is your responsibility as importer / authorised CBAM declarant.

We guarantee that the document structure follows Regulation (EU) 2023/956 and that the legal references cited are correct. We do not guarantee that a specific document will be accepted by a national competent authority in a specific case.

Can I get a refund?
By activating the licence you give express consent to the immediate generation of digital content under Art. 16(m) of Directive (EU) 2011/83, waiving the 14-day withdrawal right. Refunds only for reproducible technical failures.
What if the regulation changes?

How much will CBAM cost me per tonne of Chinese aluminium?
At 4.928 tCO₂e/t default (with 10% mark-up = 5.421 tCO₂e/t), the 2026 CBAM rate of 2.5%, and an ETS price of €75/tCO₂e, each tonne costs approximately €10.2 in 2026. This increases annually through 2034 as free allocation phases out. The interactive dashboard projects the exact amount.
Can actual emissions from my Chinese supplier reduce CBAM costs?
Yes. Default values include a 10% mark-up (Annex IV, point 4.1). If your Chinese supplier operates with hydroelectric power, actual emissions may be significantly lower than 4.928 tCO₂e/t. CBAMCheck includes a letter template to request this data.
I'm an SME without a compliance department. Can I use CBAMCheck?
CBAMCheck is designed for companies without dedicated compliance teams. Enter your CN codes, tonnage and supplier information. The tool handles the rest — default values, calculation methods, document generation — in 30 minutes.
⚠️ Important notice: CBAMCheck is a self-assessment documentation tool, not legal advice and not a third-party audit. The document is generated from your input data. You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you provide. CBAMCheck does not replace a qualified professional assessment.
